Transparent Head

The "Barreleye fish" is a unique species which we know very little about.

One of the things we do know is that its body made of very gentle gelatin like material, which is completely transparent around its head.

Why is that interesting?

Because its eyes (no its not that little two dark spots at the front, those are nostrils) look like barrels and located INSIDE his head, directed normally upwards - a cool technique to search for prey at the depth of almost 2.5 Km.

The species is known since 1939 but no live documentation of Barrel fish was found until 2004.
